Adalo lets users build dynamic, responsive apps smoothly. Bringing in external collections takes your app's capabilities up a notch by connecting data from different sources. Imagine syncing with APIs or external databases to fetch live data, simplifying management, and expanding your app's features beyond the default options. Grasping the data connectors, setting up correctly, and knowing your API endpoints are key to smooth data integration. This guide will show you how to set up and use external collections in your Adalo projects.
Log in to your Adalo account and open the project where you want to use an external collection.
Click on the Database icon located on the left sidebar of the Adalo editor.
In the Database section, click on the '+' button next to "Collections" to add a new data collection.
A modal will pop up asking if you want to create a new collection or use an existing one. Choose "External Collection".
To set up the External Collection, you will need to provide the following:
Click on the 'Test' button in the modal to make sure Adalo can successfully connect to the external collection. You should see a preview of the data if the connection works.
Map the fields from your external collection to Adalo's data fields. This step sets up how data from the external collection will be mapped to the properties used in your Adalo app.
After configuring and mapping your fields, click on the 'Save' button to add the external collection to your Adalo database.
Now that the external collection is added, you can use its data in your screens just like any other collection. Drag and drop components and connect them to your external data fields.
If needed, configure additional settings such as filters, sorts, and pagination for the external data in your app by clicking on the specific collection under the Database section.
Finally, publish your app and test to make sure the external data is being displayed and used correctly within the application.
