How to handle file uploads in Adalo?

Step 1: Set Up a File Collection in Adalo

  • Head over to the Database section in Adalo.
  • Create a new collection just for storing files. Give it a fitting name, like "Uploads".
  • Add the properties you need for your file collection, such as a file URL and any metadata you might need (like user ID, upload date).

Step 2: Add a Form Component to the Screen

  • Go to the screen where you want to enable file uploads.
  • Drag and drop a form component onto the screen. This will be used to collect file input from the user.

Step 3: Add a File Input Field to the Form

  • Click on the form to start editing it.
  • Add a new field to the form and set its type to "File".
  • Customize the file field as needed, like setting acceptable file types or adding placeholder text.

Step 4: Configure Form Actions

  • After setting up the file input field, go to the "Actions" tab of the form component.
  • Set the form to create a new record in the "Uploads" collection you made earlier.
  • Map the file input field to the right property in the "Uploads" collection (e.g., map the file input to the "file URL" property).

Step 5: Set Up Data Binding for File URL

  • In the form's configuration, make sure the file URL from the "Uploads" collection is bound to a data property in the app.
  • This lets you retrieve and display the uploaded file using the file URL.

Step 6: Add a Button to Submit the Form

  • Place a button near the form, labeled something like "Upload".
  • Configure the button's action to submit the form and, consequently, the uploaded file to the "Uploads" collection.

Step 7: Display Uploaded Files

  • Drag and drop a list component onto a screen where you want to show the uploaded files.
  • Set the list to pull data from the "Uploads" collection.
  • Customize the list items to display attributes like file names, upload dates, and provide a clickable link or button for accessing the file URL.

Step 8: Test the File Upload Function

  • Run the app in preview mode to make sure the file upload functionality is working correctly.
  • Test the whole flow, including file selection, form submission, and retrieval/display of uploaded files.
